The latest buzz about the Irving Theatre is that it may be coming under new ownership in the near future. Rumor has it that the new folk are the owners of Indy CD & Vinyl. It sounds as though the genre will be metal, punk and emo. There are some murmurings around what this might mean for the neighborhood, and opinions differ as you might expect in this community.
Some seem optimistic. New owners might bring new money into the theatre, and potentially into the general community. The theatre has been somewhat silent for a while, and is such an ideal venue for all manner of performance. While the music isn't to everyone's taste, it would add an interesting flavor to the neighborhood.
Of course there is another perspective that would have concern about a less-than-positive influence the venue might have on the neighborhood. Frequent crowds of the disgruntled underage, late nights, loud music and lack of parking - One might compare it to The Emerson Theatre. What's that neighborhood like on show nights? What affect will that crowd have coming through so often?
Modern Communities inevitably evolve over time, and this community seems ripe for economic and cultural revolution. The question remains - What will Irvington grow into? It seems silly asking the question of a century old suburb, but these are decisions being made, and they're being made by people who are speaking up.
What do you think?
