Meet at Starbucks at 8:30pm. Please bring a bag and gloves if you want to pick up litter, and of course bring kids, friends, neighbors, and dogs! This is just an opportunity to have a presence and pick up litter along the strip and enjoy the beauty of Irvington as well...and have a pleasant "walk and talk" with friends and neighbors. More information: Laura Hildreth,   This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it  .

From Sleepy Hollow: "New Super Fun Free Thing To Do"

You've heard of a classic sewing circle, or your gramma's Stitch 'n Bitch, or maybe even the Knotty Knitters Society.  In a similar spirit, we're getting the creative mojo working here by hosting our own Stitch & Moan!  Would you rather eat soap than try sewing? Fear not- it's not stitch exclusive.  Write, draw, hook, knit, bead, hot glue, carve, ink-whatever portable craft floats your boat, bring it.  Swap stories and/or scrap material every 3rd Sunday of the month 6:30-9:00p.m.  Crafty? Curious? Call the shop for details-(317)354-8000. (That's this Sunday, folks - hope to see you there!)

The Real Dirt on Farmer John
Don't miss this film about the flamboyant hippy farmer who became a leader in the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) movement! Snips Salon will be turned into a movie theater for a night when we show this award-winning documentary about reinventing the family farm.

In a CSA, members purchase a seasonal share and receive a weekly allotment of fresh, organic produce, straight from the farm. Did you know that several CSAs deliver in Irvington, and that Edibles stocks many varieties of locally grown foods? Come learn more from our special guest speakers!

7 p.m. Monday, August 18 at Snips Salon and Spa, 5612 E. Washington St.

Traders Point Creamery Market and Farm Tour

If there is interest in forming a carpool to the Aug. 22 Traders Point market and farm tour, IGI could coordinate that. The market starts at 4 p.m., and the tour is at 5:30 p.m. with a cost of $3. Dinner is also available on the farm. This event is sponsored by Earth Charter Indiana & Indy Sustainable Food Alliance. Please respond if you would like to ride up with us.

Get ready now for GOING LOCAL Week, a one week "challenge" to Indiana citizens to eat at least one Indiana locally grown or produced food at each meal during the seven day event, August 31-September 6th, 2008. (Testimonial from Shawndra: This is not hard to do this time of year with apples, tomatoes, corn, etc. in season!)

Edibles is hosting a "taste" event Aug. 30 to kick off the week, and we have tentatively planned a local foods potluck to cap off the challenge. Stay tuned for details!

Also on the local food front, don't forget to pick up a copy of Plenty and Animal, Vegetable, Miracle for the Sept. 16 book discussion at Bookmamas.
